Cable, mechanism, and electronic parking-brake adjustment so it holds every time.
Schedule a Brake ServiceApply the parking brake and count the clicks. If it takes more than 7 clicks to engage fully, or if the vehicle still rolls on a slope with the brake set, it needs adjustment. Also check the hold: put it on a mild grade and let off the service brake — it should hold the vehicle.
Probably just frozen or seized from moisture. The cable or mechanism has rust from sitting. Try applying and releasing the brake several times. If it won’t release, don’t force it — bring it in. Using the parking brake regularly is the best prevention against freezing.
Brake jobs that include rotor replacement or caliper work often require re-adjustment of the parking brake cable and drum shoe clearance. If the shop didn’t re-adjust after the brake job, this is normal and easily fixed.
